CZ Lovecraft: Part 1... This wonderfully bizarre envelope (which continues in the next image) came today stuffed with a bewildering array of images: postcards, magazine clippings, stickers... a whole SMURF-LOAD of STUFFFFFF... If you don't believe me, just look below. (A short note: My dumb scanner won't pick up the day-glo hues that this character was actually colored, so I guess you'll have to come to one of the exhibitions to see the true-life, blazingly bright look of this package!!!) Posted by Hello

CZ Lovecraft: Part 2... The other side of the envelope... Posted by Hello

CZ Lovecraft: Part 3... I absolutely LOVE the bear looking in the window... Great visual. Plus, the note explains why CZ enjoys mail art, so besides being entertaining, this piece is also educational!!! (In a good way...) The note continues in the next image... Posted by Hello

The First Outdoor Exhibit!!!

The first M.A.R.S. Project exhibition will take place in Longview, Washington, USA on July 2, 3, and 4, 2005. To take advantage of the heavy foot traffic in the area over the Independence Day weekend I'm setting up a booth in front of my house where I will display the projects that I have so far received. I will also be making up some informational flyers explaining mail art, its history, and introducing some of its most well known practicioners.

The booth will be seen by hundreds of people over the course of the three days so if anyone is looking for an opportunity to show your art to the world, this is it!!!

For information on the specific requirements for inclusion in the project, or to check out some of the art I've already received check the M.A.R.S. Project site:

Thanks!
Rick

Scott Thomas: Part 1... Carefully concealed inside this fantastic box were two electrical plates (the kind you would secure over a no-longer-used light switch) on which Scott has drawn a couple of cartoon alien portraits straight out of some classic 50s sci-fi comic book... Very cool... Posted by Hello

Scott Thomas: Part 2... (Around edge of plate: "S.T. 5/14/05... BGM 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' by Gordon Lightfoot... Wait! Now it's 'Couch Potato' by Weird Al..." On back of plate: "'Drawn Steel' I got the idea for this character from a song I heard on the 'Dr. Demento Show' called 'She's the One-Eyed One I Love'...") Wonderful... Posted by Hello

Scott Thomas: Part 3... (On back of plate: "Rita Roswell is loosely based on a secretary at my last job... This is an example of what I call Drawn Steel...") Very cool. Love the little "crop circle" designs... Posted by Hello
